The Michter Distillery is located in the heart of the American whiskey industry in Louisville, Kentucky. Their history dates back to the first distilleries in America. In the 1700s, John Shenk, a farmer, decided to build a small distillery to convert his excess rye into whiskey. Over time, this small distillery with its hand-hammered stills will produce this famous whiskey called “Michter’s”. This whiskey was so popular that when the Revolutionary War broke out, General George Washington purchased it to strengthen his men. The passage of Prohibition in 1919 forced Michter and all other American distilleries to close their doors to the public. Although the distillery reopened, Michter eventually had to declare bankruptcy. In the 90s, two businessmen joined forces and relaunched production, today Michter’s whiskeys are considered the best American whiskeys. Michter’s is known for its excellent Small Batch Bourbons, produced exclusively in limited bottling.

Description

Beautifully rich and spicy, Michter’s US*1 Sour Mash is an American whiskey aged in charred American white oak barrels. Its name “Sour Mash” refers to a process that we owe to James C. Crow. This involves keeping part of the previous fermentation and adding it to the following mash to give more flavor to the whiskey. After disappearing from the market in 1989, Michter’s Original Sour Mash Whiskey made a triumphant return in 2012 with its introduction into the US 1 line. Remaining faithful to the profile of its predecessor, Michter’s US 1 Sour Mash quickly became a must-have whiskey . It delivers an abundance of notes of cinnamon, dried fruit, caramel and hazelnut, with a spicy tone on the finish. It’s simply delicious.
